From snowy Salzburg to old battlegrounds
Travel2015
CONGRATULATIONS to Tevia Zieff of Bloubergsands for her picture of Salzburg, Austria. She visited the town with her family at the end of December.
“While walking through the snow-covered streets of the beautiful old town we came upon these ponies and carriage in Mozartplatz Square, ready to take tourists on a fairy-tale ride.”
Zieff wins a midweek’s night stay at Montagu Springs.
The runners-up are Roger Trythall, of Camps Bay, for his picture of a fisherman in Myanmar and Sheila Marchant- Webb, of Fish Hoek, for her picture of a herd of elephants in Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape.
Trythall was intrigued by the unique style of fishing he saw on Inle Lake in Myanmar.
“We also visited some of the battle sites of the Forgotten War (World War II’s Burma campaign 1942-1945). The motto of the 14th Army under the brilliant command of General William Slim was: ‘When you go home, tell them of us and say for your tomorrow we gave our today.’ “
Marchant- Webb visited Addo and spotted “a baby elephant being protected by the rest of the herd”.
“My husband and I spent two days driving around the park. We saw various other animals including lion, zebra and springbok plus several interesting birds.” Competition rules: ● All photographs must relate to travel, and you may enter as many times as you like.
