Bar: Batstone Pool Address: Fourth floor, Cape Quarter (the Spar block), 27 Somerset Road 079 973 8368 Twitter: @Batstonepool Cocktail: Cucumber Twist Price: R55 Ingredients: Inverroche gin, elderflower cordial, Fitch & Leedes tonic, orange slices and cucumber ribbons I’VE MADE a fun discovery – the Batstone Pool.

On my way there this week, I got seriously lost. My advice is to take the lift to the mezzanine level above the Spar, take the stairs to right and then take the Napier lift to the fourth floor.

A gorgeous view and a rooftop bar will greet you.

Get there soon as they are only open for the warmer months and will stop trading on May 2.

One of Batstone’s directors, Florian Engi, chatted to us about the Cucumber Twist, their most popular cocktail.

The drink is built in a stemless martini glass, over orange slices and cucumber ribbons. It appeals to my taste for bitter gin flavours over super sweet fruity cocktails.

Since the bar opened in midDecember, it’s been Batstone’s best seller.

Batstone offers sweeping views of the City Bowl, the harbour and the waterfront.

Engi said the idea was to create a place for conversation, work and relaxation.

Batstone Pool is open Wednesdays to Sundays from 11am to sunset. – Wendyl Martin
