Boebie hopes a change of scenery can turn things around for Milano

- RODNEY REINERS

AFTER an opening week to forget in the National First Division, the Mother City’s clubs are looking to get back into gear this weekend.

Last week, only one of the five teams – Cape Town All Stars – managed to register a win. Now, there’s obviously extra motivation in the quest for points.

There is, however, the first of a host of NFD Cape derbies, with Vasco da Gama hosting Santos at Parow Park tomor- row afternoon (kick-off 3pm). It’s a clash of two former PSL clubs, now fallen on difficult times since being relegated from the top-flight, and a desperation for victory will certainly consume this derby.

FC Cape Town are in Dobsonville today to face recentlyrelegated Moroka Swallows, while All Stars head for Durban to take on Royal Eagles.

Eagles this week made some big-name signings in former Ajax Cape Town captain Dominic Isaacs, ex- Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela and former Orlando Pirates winger Kethokwakhe Masuku.

Milano United, very unhappy with the treatment

NFD Fixtures

Today: Moroka Swallows v FC Cape Town; Thanda Royal Zulu v AmaZulu; Milano United v Mthatha Bucks (Blue Downs Stadium, 3pm); Royal Eagles v Cape Town All Stars Tomorrow: Witbank Spurs v Highlands Park; African Warriors v Black Leopards; Vasco da Gama v Santos (Parow Park, 3pm); Baroka FC v Mombela United they received from match officials in last week’s 2-0 defeat to Black Leopards in Venda, now have an opportunity to get some points on the board. The Grassy Park-based club face newly- promoted Mthatha Bucks at the Blue Downs Stadium today (kick-off 3pm).

Milano coach Boebie Solomons explained the reasoning behind the venue selection.

“There are quite a few Cape clubs who want to play at Athlone, including All Stars, Santos and Ajax,” he said. “So it’s always a problem in terms of who plays on what day… we want to have a ground that’s only our own, which means we can play on a day that suits us.

“Because of this, we decided to opt for Blue Downs, and we think we can do well there.

“As for Bucks, they are a new team and we will have to be careful. I travelled to East London to watch them play FC Cape Town last week, and they are a good ball-playing side. We’ll be ready for them.

“But the important thing is that this is our home game and we have to make the most of it.

“If we want to be serious contenders for promotion, then we have to make sure that we take the points at home.”
