Students cleared in ‘blackface’ dispute
THE TEMPORARY suspension of the two Stellenbosch students involved in an alleged “blackface” incident last Friday has been lifted, the university announced.
The recommendation came from the university’s equality unit following an extensive investigation and the institution’s management accepted the decision, rector and vicechancellor Professor Wim de Villiers said.
The equality unit said it was clear that “there was no direct or indirect intention to cause offence or harm to any student or staff member”.
