Teen in fatal fall from train

- CARYN DOLLEY

A TEENAGE boy fell to his death from a moving train near Stikland on his way home from school this week.

Reagon Payne, 15, was standing near a door when he fell out at about 3pm on Wednesday, police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

“It is alleged that pupils were standing at the open door of the moving train from Bellville to Kuils River,” he said.

Payne fell as the train neared Stikland. A Facebook post, shared more than 4 000 times, said Payne had been robbed in the train and was thrown from it. But Van Wyk said yesterday that “no foul play is suspected”.

An inquest has been opened into Payne’s death. Metrorail spokeswoman Riana Scott said it appeared robbery had not been reported to police.

Scott said Metrorail managers would contact Payne’s family and urged anyone with information to contact the police.

“We stress the importance of reporting all incidents to the police.”
