Power station for Saldanha mooted

-

ARCELORMITTAL is in talks with the South African government to build an 800 megawatt gas power station on its Saldanha Steel property in the Western Cape, its chief executive said.

ArcelorMittal, which is reviewing its Saldanha operations partly due to high electricity costs, is willing to use 180MW to 220MW of the power plant’s energy, Paul O'Flaherty said. The remainder would be sold to other industrial users, he said.
