FOR THOSE looking for something to do on Valentine’s Day besides a romantic dinner, the Galileo Open Air Cinema provides great options. The space is not only ideal for celebrating VDay, but for datenights in general.

While the beautiful summer weather lingers, movie fans can relax under the stars and watch their favourite films in a charming outdoor space with lovers, friends or family.

The outdoor cinema runs until the end of April at various venues around Cape Town. This is the fourth year that the cinema is running and boasts a line-up of more than 100 films.

Venues include The Palms in Woodstock, V&A Waterfront on the Foreshore, Kirstenbosch Gardens in Newlands, the Hillcrest Quarry in Durbanville and farms in the Winelands.

Screenings include romantic comedies, musicals, cult classics and acclaimed documentaries. Valentine’s weekend celebrates romance in the form of ShakespeareinLove tonight and Casablanca tomorrow. The rest of the week features SilenceoftheLambs, ThatSugar Film, MadMax:FuryRoad and Grease.

All venues include food and drink vendors, market stalls and even a VIP section that allows for a more comfortable experience. Ticket-holders are encouraged to arrive early to settle in and explore the venues; movies are screened after sunset.

Tickets prices begin at R79 with higher prices depending on the level of comfort and options which include blankets.

There are special picnic baskets on offer for Valentine’s Day weekend. The Galileo open air Cinema runs until April 29.
