The most romantic line yet uttered
LONDON: Her books describe some of the most heart- warming love affairs in literature.
So it perhaps comes as little surprise that a line from one of Jane Austen’s heroes has been voted the most romantic ever uttered.
But the words, “My heart is, and always will be yours”, spoken by Edward Ferrars in Sense and Sensibility, were not written by the author.
They were added in the 1995 film adaptation by Emma Thompson, who won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.
One passage by Austen made 10th place: Mr Darcy’s declaration to Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice: “In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” – Daily Mail
