Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and as it is Sunday, most theatres are closed, but Alexander Upstairs Theatre in Strand Street will be open from 4pm, with a TED-style talk by Toinette Labuschagné “explaining immunology, stem cells and scientific jargon” that will hopefully lead “to the audiences’ appreciation of biologically identical avatars for the use of personalised medical therapies”. Alexander adds this disclaimer: “The sensitive and squeamish are advised to rather enjoy their Valentine’s Day sipping pink Champagne elsewhere. The hard-boiled and unaffected can later impress their partners and friends with newfound knowledge of antibodies and engraftment surgeries.” Tickets are R60/R70.
