Valentine’s Day under the Stars. Jonathan Roxmouth will be crooning love songs tomorrow night at the Century City Conference Centre and Hotel. His co-star from the recent production of West Side Story, Lynelle Kenned, is also in the line-up which includes The Gugulethu Tenors and soprano Magdalene Minnaar, accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Tickets are R350 at Computicket. Think Up: Biological Avatars. Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and as it is Sunday, most theatres are closed, but Alexander Upstairs Theatre in Strand Street will be open from 4pm, with a TED-style talk by Toinette Labuschagné “explaining immunology, stem cells and scientific jargon” that will hopefully lead “to the audiences’ appreciation of biologically identical avatars for the use of personalised medical therapies”. Alexander adds this disclaimer: “The sensitive and squeamish are advised to rather enjoy their Valentine’s Day sipping pink Champagne elsewhere. The hard-boiled and unaffected can later impress their partners and friends with newfound knowledge of antibodies and engraftment surgeries.” Tickets are R60/R70. Romance – albeit with jokes and jabs at what love is about – will be on tomorrow night at the Cape Town Comedy Club at The Pumphouse in the V&A Waterfront with a three-course Valentine’s Day menu (R250) and à la carte menu. The five-comic line-up includes Martin Evans (MC) and KG (headline). Show starts 8.30pm. Tickets for show only are R120. Book at www.capetowncomedy.com/valentines. – Robyn Cohen
