Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)
More than a day at the beach
DESIGNERS Keith Henning and Jody Paulsen from the AKJP label gave us a sneak peek at their Autumn/Winter 2016 collection. The Cape Town debut of the collection took place at SA Menswear week last weekend, and was previously shown at the international fashion show Pitti Uomo in Florence.
The duo drew references from artist Georgina Gratix’s brushwork. Results are warm, colourful, textured looks paired with bold accessories. The label’s new focus is on outerwear made from jacquard, cashmere, silk, wool, cotton, mohair, linen, twill and impala leather.
The range includes menswear and womenswear and makes use of rich layering, asymmetric detailing and impactful styling. Blue and red dominate the prints in the form of overcoats, culottes and overalls, with sections of yellow and green. Oversized bags and clutches complete the designs.
The designers described the collection as “comfortable ready-to-wear pieces with a lush and tropical finish; a nod to Durban beach culture”.
The AKJP store is the brainchild of Henning who opened the space in 2012. It hosts Henning and Paulsen’s designs and is also dedicated to showing a variety of creative, high-quality South African designer items. The full range will be in store from April.
