Pinelands Grove retirement village readies for opening

-

WITH less than a month to go before the Pinelands Grove retirement development opens its doors, there has been a flurry of buyer interest in the independent living apartments in Pinelands, according to Bev Bloch, Pam Golding Properties development sales executive for the Western Cape metro region.

She says buyers are mainly interested in the one and two bedroom apartments, priced from R895 000 to R2.295 million. There are also studio units from R495 000 to R575 000.

“Most of the two-bedroom apartments have already been sold since the development was announced some months ago. A number of one- bedroom units were consolidated into two-bedroom DD type apartments, decreasing the total number of apartments in the complex from 218 to 208,” says Bloch.

“This DD option is available in various parts of the development, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a kitchen with a seating area leading to an open plan dining room, a lounge and study area, two balconies and parking for two cars. This option is popular among people downscaling from large homes.”

The development is funded mainly by Old Mutual, and is managed by the Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged (CPOA). Apartments are sold on a life rights basis to retired people over 50.

“The recent decision to introduce an on-site frail care unit at Pinelands Grove from July has further boosted interest in this retirement village,” says Bloch. “It’s viewed as a welcome addition to the health care facility which will offer a wide range of professional nursing services, and the assisted living services available to residents in their own apartments.

The monthly level includes 16 meals a month and residents have the option of purchasing more meals. Other facilities and services include a solarheated swimming pool, a gym, lounges, a library, a bar, a hairdresser and a coin- operated laundry. Fast internet and wifi connectivity enable residents to keep in touch with family and friends. Even pet-loving owners of ground floor apartments may keep pets weighing less than 10kg.

Closed circuit television cameras at reception and all communal external entrance doors provide 24 hour monitoring, access to the premises is controlled and the perimeter is secured with tamper- proof electric fencing. The village is also equipped with a fire and smoke detection system, with a detector in each apartment. Facilities have been designed with wheelchairs and walkers in mind.
