Get your grape-stomping tootsies out

-

VISITORS to Nederburg today will get to stomp newly harvested grapes, taste the freshly pressed must – the juice that contains the skins, seeds, and stems of the fruit – and sample 2016 vintage wines in the making at the annual Ommiberg (Round The Rock) festival.

Live music performances by Lize Mynhard, Sterling EQ, Loki Rothman and Danielle Bitton will set the mood and the estate’s restaurant, The Red Table, will be offering an a la carte lunch. If you prefer something a little less formal, there will be gourmet boerewors and steak rolls, venison burgers, as well as meat and cheese platters with freshly baked artisanal bread.

Nederburg wines by the glass or bottle will be on sale and you’ll get a 10 percent discount on take-home wines bought at the Ommiberg wine stand and the visitors’ centre. There is a free cellar tour at 11am.

Outdoor games including giant checkers, chess, dominoes and pickup sticks will keep adults entertained. For children there will be face painting, a jumping castle, colouring competition, treasure hunt, puppet shows and a dance competition. There’s no need to book for any of these activities except for sit-down meals at The Red Table. To make a reservation call 021 877 5151 or email theredtable@nederburg. co.za.

Festival tickets are R120 at www.webtickets.co.za. Limited tickets will be available at the gate for R150. Children under 18 accompanied by adults enter for free.
