At first glance you might think the venue was an art gallery, workshop or a designer’s studio, but it’s a new eatery situated in the heart of the CBD.

It’s popular among designers, artists and other customers. I was intrigued by the decor and layout of the venue, which featured long tables with a classroom feel. Some tables had recycled crates as a supporting structure and there were shelves with books and crafted objects on them.

I ordered my meal at the counter with a built-in chalkboard around it. The waiter helpfully explained the options available on the breakfast menu.

I chose a meaty breakfast wrap (R40) with two eggs, red onion, tomato, cheddar cheese and bacon.

As I was waiting, I noticed most of the diners used the place as an office or meeting area. The group in front of me had their laptops open, designing posters; another group was designing what appeared to be a house plan and a third group arrived with sketch boards.

When my food came it appeared to be a small portion, but it was surprisingly filling. I ate half of the wrap and I was full. I liked the flavour the red onion added to it and my eggs were nicely medium to well-done.

I ordered a large cappuccino (R17) with my meal, which I enjoyed; it was creamy and nicely decorated. I appreciated the service and my food.

On my way out I was tempted to order the fresh-pressed juice for (R25) on display. The one that caught my attention was beetroot juice with cucumber and apple and the waiter suggested his favourite orange juice with carrot and ginger, but I declined as I’d had too much already.

This eatery is ideal for people who like creative spaces and who like to get their work done over breakfast.
