Cape Town pro

-

CAPE TOWN is finally back on the world surfing map when the local WSL office announced the inaugural edition of the Cape Town Pro presented by Quiksilver, comprising internationallyrated QS1000 events for men and women.

It’s much smaller than Ballito, but it’s something. The event will be staged at Big Bay, Bloubergstrand on May 6- 8. The Cape Town Pro will be managed by Accelerate Sport in partnership with Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and the City of Cape Town.

SuperTrial

A MIX of experience, talent and local knowledge of Supertubes can be found in the next five surfers invited to the JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA in early June. The surfers are Ricky Basnett, Sean Holmes, Matt McGillivray, Dylan Lightfoot and Davey Van Zyl.

Wave Pool Pro?

I WAS intrigued to read an article on stabmag.com suggesting that by 2017 we might well have a Word Surf League tour event at Kelly Slater’s artifical wave pool. Apparently, the WSL is mightily impressed with the quality of the wave, and there are some major links between the executive and owners of the WSL and Kelly’s wave company that built the wave pool. Watch this space.

Weather Tip

TODAY, proper swell begins to pulse, starting 3-4’ and building to solid 8’ by evening. Expect the ocean to be smooth and glassy early this morning, with no wind. Great waves early before a southerly breeze really starts to pump this afternoon. Muizenberg nice and clean but small early, perhaps 2’. It will be messy later. Tomorrow, the SE is honking 20kts in cooking 6-8’ swell. Muizies dissolves in stiff onshores.
