Invite withdrawn

UCT has withdrawn its invitation to Danish journalist Flemming Rose, the editor responsible for printing cartoon images of the prophet Muhammed in a newspaper in 2005.

The journalist, who was at the centre of a publishing saga which caused boycotts of the Danish publication Jyllands-Posten, was set to be the speaker at the TB Davie Memorial Lecture.

Yesterday university spokeswoman Gerda Kruger said in a statement they had given “careful and ex tensive thought” to the decision.
