Veteran broadcasters join forces to put their stamp on the airwaves
FORMER MetroFM DJ Tbo Touch yesterday announced a surprise partnership with Gareth Cliff which will see the two veteran presenters launch a new HD radio channel called Touch Central.
Tbo Touch, real name Thabo Molefe, said Touch Central would be a 24-hour online music channel focusing on local music and would be free to subscribers.
The flamboyant DJ, who is also a serial entrepreneur, merged his new radio business venture with Cliff, who also owns a two-year-old online radio station, Cliff Central.
Tbo Touch said he would host the daily afternoon drive show on the station every weekday from 3 to 7pm. The name would remain The Touchdown.
Although Touch declined to reveal the line up of his DJs, he promised it would not be the typical fare.
“I cannot disclose the names of those who are in the line-up, but I can tell you it’s nothing like the usual,” Tbo Touch said.
“We are going to work with the underestimated people in the game.”
The radio channel is set to launch on August 29, with the live countdown already up on the station’s website.
Tbo Touch said he would give the first one million subscribers free data and membership.
Tbo Touch resigned from MetroFm at the end of last month after 11 years of professional radio at the SABC station. – ANA
