Opportunity to invest in a 69ha boutique wine farm near Paarl
MICHAEL JAMES ORGANISATION will auction a 69.89ha boutique wine farm, situated in the Klein Drakenstein area, just seven kilometres from the Paarl central business district, on site at 11.15am on Thursday, October 20.
Samantha James, a director at the auction house, describes the property, which lies along the Wilde Wildepaardejacht River on the slopes of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, as “an ideal investment opportunity.”
The greater Winelands area in the Western Cape has recently shown an increase in demand for agricultural properties at the upper end of the market, she says. “Investing in the prime wine-producing areas gives new owners a chance both to enjoy the returns of wine production and the prestigious lifestyle that comes with this.”
James believes that the property will appeal not only to local buyers but also to foreign investors, giving them an opportunity to invest in a potential second home and enjoy the idyllic country lifestyle that properties such as this offer.
The farm to be auctioned has a beautiful country setting, and is located just 45 minutes’ drive from the Cape Town city centre, she says.
The property has 44ha under vines, and produces an array of red varietals and also Chenin Blanc wine.
The main homestead offers three bedrooms, two bathrooms and generous living space, and includes a billiard room with fullsize billiard table, bar and office. Some parts of the building date back to 1802 and 1922, and the house features some original yellowwood ceilings, she says.
A manager’s house and labourers’ cottages provide ample accommodation for farm staff, and a fully functional workshop and winery provide the necessary infrastructure for the working farm.
A special preview of the property has been arranged from 2pm to 4pm on October 16, the Sunday before the auction.
The terms of the auction are that a deposit of 10 percent of the purchase price and auctioneer’s commission will be payable on the fall of the hammer, with the balance required on transfer.
