Miss SA’s faith is taking her places

- KABELO CHABALALA

NTANDOYENKOSI Kunene, the reigning Miss SA, believes that everything that happens in her life is a reflection of her faith in powers greater then her.

“We achieve greater things in God, who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us,” she says.

The 2 4 - ye a r - o l d Mpumalanga- born beauty said: “I never thought of representing the country at the Miss World competition.

“This has shown me how far your dreams can take you if you believe.

“For me, as believer in God and as a Christian, this has also shown me the bigger plans God has for you. He does more than we can imagine. I only dreamt of being Miss SA. I didn’t think this would open even more bigger opportunities for me. God is great.”

As Kunene looks forward to her Miss World journey, she also reflected on her impact since she took over in March as Miss SA.

“I have so many highlights and memorable moments. But the biggest highlight is travelling my country. I got a chance to visit North West, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

“My initiative has ensured that the learners have a lot to look forward to even when I am no longer Miss SA. I have always wanted to make changes to children at schools and beyond,” Kunene said.

This comes as no surprise because Ntandoyenkosi holds an Honours degree in education from Wits.

“Education is the closest thing to my heart. But now that I have had a close encounter with children at different schools across the country, I realise much more needs to be done.”

With two qualifications in education, the question is: will we see Kunene swop the ramp for chalk? The answer is no.

“I have plans in education, but I don’t see myself standing before a formal classroom and teach.

“I will always be a teacher. This time, I will be a life teacher,” Kunene added.

Ntando is an inspiration to many and young women in South Africa look up to her. She had this to say to girls: “Keep on keeping on. It won’t be an easy journey, but you are fully equipped. You are enough just as you are.”
