Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)
Conspiracy
This conspiracy theory is held together, in a manner of speaking, by the most tenuous of suppositions. That US President Donald Trump is gunning for South Africa (or the ANC, as the writer seems to use the two interchangeably); that Trump is going to finance/support the DA to make South Africa more right-wing… and a lot more along the same vein. This is a fantastical tale that would put the best alternative fact practitioners to shame. It is an opinion piece, yet one does expect a certain amount of factbased and tempered analysis from one who holds such a position in a newspaper.
What a load of conspiracy-based, factless drivel... if you studied true professional journalism I would go ask for your money back.
Donald J Trump couldn’t care whether SA, the DA, ANC, EFF, Jacob Zuma, Helen Zille or Julius lives or dies... get over yourself. These people can afford the exorbitant fines the City of Cape Town imposes on them. We are on Level 3b restrictions already and they have not reduced their water consumption or usage.
There have been more than enough fair warnings issued to people. And now on top of all the warnings, they get another warning. I believe water should be limited to those who have not made any attempt to conserve water. Going without some water might just have them appreciating what we have. Water police: the Western Cape government is just putting on a show. They are lining us up for some political agenda and profit. They and the ANC are just playing good cop, bad cop, but have the same agendas.

Following President Jacob Zuma’s reply to the Sona debate in Parliament, the DA has written to the president requesting an inquest into the deaths of more 100 psychiatric patients. As the president also failed to mention any inquiry into some 18 000 deaths annually on our roads, will the DA now also demand action on this catastrophe? – Richard Benson, Road Safety Action Campaign, Cape Town
Even a five-year old can see Paul O’Sullivan is being prosecuted for investigating corruption. The fact that he had to buy his freedom for R10 000 makes me question the judge’s impartiality in this matter.
Zuma statue
How vain is this man? Why would anyone want to look at his statue? What a waste of taxpayers' money.
