UN probe rejected

GENEVA: The UN launched an investigation into alleged atrocities against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar, but the Asian democracy rejected yesterday’s decision by the UN.

Myanmar’s Rakhine State has seen a surge in violence and security forces launched an operation targeting the Rohingya, which a UN report says involved rapes and killings. The international mission should be dispatched urgently to establish the facts of these alleged crimes, the UN decided.

Myanmar’s UN envoy, Htin Lynn, argued that his country had launched its own investigation.– dpa
