Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)
Israel’s brutal apartheid
I WRITE in response to the letters by Peter Berman, Rodney Mazinter and Charlotte Caine published in Weekend Argus last Saturday.
The outcry defending Israel as an innocent, democratic and peaceloving nation, is a desperate attempt to arrest its fast-declining credibility and reputation. Having first-hand felt the brutal effect of apartheid in South Africa and being aware that Palestinians are getting it much worse, there is no doubt that Israel can be considered as racist and oppressive, aided and abetted by its “Trump card”, the US.
Fortunately, social media has heightened the awareness of the aggression meted out by the heavily armed Israeli forces, especially at security check-points.
Notwithstanding the humiliation suffered due to Israel’s policies of occupation and colonisation, the Palestinians’ faith will ensure that they do not succumb to bully-boy tactics, but remain committed to freeing themselves.
If Israel was as compassionate and democratic as your correspondents portray it to be, why would there be a need for humanitarian organisations to provide aid from so far? Why would Israel intentionally target schools, hospitals, reservoirs and other key infrastructural facilities for bombing?
This is real terrorism which makes recent events pale into insignificance.
