Try your hand at cupcake decorating

WHO doesn’t love a cupcake? It’s the perfect treat for one, and even better when you’ve decorated it yourself.

As part of its school holiday activities, Stodels in Constantia ( 62 Doordrift Road is offering hour-long Easter cupcake decorating workshops on Wednesday, April 12 at 10am, 12pm and 2pm.

For R38, children (or adults, no doubt) will get a kit – packed in a biodegradable box – comprising a pre-baked chocolate or vanilla cupcake, butter icing in a selection of colours and an assortment of decorations including Smarties, mini chocolate eggs, flakes and liquorice.

The Stodels team will help guide you through a step-by-step process of icing and decorating your cupcake to enjoy straight away, or to take home as a tasty, edible Easter gift. Places are limited so booking is essential.

Also on Wednesday, at 11am, there will be an Easter egg hunt around the nursery, to find chocolate eggs buried and hidden among the trees, bushes and plants.

On Friday, April 14, at 11am, children will be able to finger paint their own plant pot to take home.

At Stodels in Somerset West (at the intersection of the N2 and R44, opposite the Somerset Mall, 021 852 7400), Monday at 11am will be the time for children to get their hands dirty and learn how to plant in a pot. They can take their plant home and watch it grow.

On April 12, there will be face painting, and on Sunday, April 16, an Easter egg hunt, also at 11am.

In Kenilworth (Doncaster Road, 021 671 9050), pot painting is on April 10, and potting plants on April 12 at, yes you guessed it, 11am.

Last but not least, at the Milnerton nursery (Racecourse Road, 021 528 4000), children will learn how to make a cactus garden on April 12, which is an excellent lesson in these drought-stricken times. On Sunday, April 16, will be the Easter egg hunt. This branch also has a jungle gym, trampoline, sand-pit and jumping castle.

All activities except the cupcake workshops are free and last an hour, from 11am to noon.
