Cold Case: Revisiting Dulcie September Denise Newman’s poignant portrait of the activist assassinated in Paris in 1988, is on at Alexander Upstairs from Monday (April 17) until April 29. Newman was flummoxed by September’s death – which remains unsolved – a cold case. After extensive research she collaborated with Basil Appollis and Sylvia Vollenhoven and they wrote the script.

My Children, My Africa Athol Fugard’s late 1980s play is being staged at Artscape by The Siyasanga Cape Town Theatre Company, from May 4-13. It pivots around the confrontation between a feisty township youth and his teacher and a girl from a white school. The play is a school set-work. Performances are at 10.30am and 2pm but check www.artscape.co.za for schedule. Tickets are R40. Book at Computicket. Hamlet This acclaimed production is on at Theatre on the Bay until April 29. Six actors play 21 roles in this homage to the staging of Hamlet in 1608 on board The Red Dragon – an East India ship – which was moored off the east coast of South Africa.
This staging is widely regarded as the first recorded public performance of a Shakespearean play outside Europe. The cast features Marcel Meyer, Michael Richard, Dean Balie, Jeremy Richard, Matthew Baldwin and Callum Tilbury.
