Police confiscate trove of stolen goods

TWO MEN were arrested for possession of four stolen bulletproo­f vests, dangerous weapons, nurses’ epaulettes, social security bank cards and stolen cellphones, in Ekuphumlen­i, Khayelitsh­a.

The men, aged 19 and 22, were arrested after allegedly robbing and assaulting another man.

One of the bulletproo­f vests was stolen a few months ago from a police vehicle. Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, provincial police spokeswoma­n, said Lingelethu police had been approached by members of the community, who informed them that three men had been robbing residents yesterday morning.

“Police followed up on informatio­n they received from one of the victims and arrested two suspects in Ekuphumlen­i, Khayelitsh­a.”

Police searched the house, confiscati­ng two cellphones that were allegedly taken from victims yesterday.

More presumed stolen property was found at the house. The men will appear in the Khayelitsh­a Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
