Gear up for auction of more than 120 vehicles Bid online for used luxury cars and runarounds
INTEREST in vehicle auctions is growing. With South Africa’s recent downgrade to junk status, the market for used cars is stronger than ever, with South Africans wanting more value for their money, says Jan Eksteen, project manager at GoIndustry DoveBid SA.
The auction house is getting ready to receive more than 120 vehicles, from luxury brands and affordable run-arounds to commercial delivery vehicles, for its upcoming vehicle auction.
Eksteen says this will be the ninth auction held on behalf of the Government Motor Transport (GMT) of the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works.
“At first, the GMT bidder pool was located in the Western Cape but has since grown to a national level.
“We have seen fierce competition among bidders in the final stages of these auctions,” he says, adding that interested purchasers can take part in the online auction from their home or office.
GoDove will offer affordable entry-level cars and higherend models, such as the Audi A4, Mercedes Benz C300 and Mercedes Benz E350 Cabriolet.
“Among models that will go under the hammer are the Ford Figo and VW Polo.”
Eksteen says vehicles on offer will include Hyundai H1 buses, Nissan NP300s, Chevrolet Aveos, Chevrolet Utilities, Toyota Hilux double cabs, Ford Rangers, and Toyota Quantum panel vans.
“Our catalogue will also feature a few quad bikes, including a Kawasaki KVF360 and a Yamaha YFM 400 Big Bear.”
John Taylor, operations director of GoIndustry DoveBid, explains the online auction process: “To make the entire process as smooth and transparent for buyers as possible, we hold viewing days where the public can inspect the vehicles.
“We have GoDove staff ready to advise and train individuals who aren’t familiar with the online auction process. There are no delays post-auction in the transfer of ownership as GMT staff are present on site to finalise the auction process.”
Taylor says the online platform offers benefits to both buyers and sellers.
“Bidders are able to participate in real-time from anywhere in the world without having to travel to an auction site. For the majority of our auctions, sellers do not have to transport their assets to one location: the goods stay on site at the seller’s premises.
“Sellers also have the assurance of a transparent, auditable auction process. We have vast experience in disposing of surplus assets online and make sure it is a controlled process.”

Vehicles can be inspected on August 25, 28 and 29 from 9am to 3pm at GoIndustry DoveBid’s premises at 10 Evelyn Street, Retreat, Cape Town.
Online bidding will open at 5pm on August 23 and will close at 2pm on August 30.
