Comrades 4 Canines trio to raise R100 000
THREE dog lovers are asking other animal lovers to show the colour of their money.
The trio are running the world’s “toughest” race while raising R100 000 for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA (CoGH SPCA). Liam Gannon, Greg Korck and Louis Horn plan to complete 89km for the cause by running the Comrades Marathon in June.
Tara McGovern, the communications, resource and development manager at the CoGH SPCA, said they were grateful for the initiative.
“To have three animal lovers such as Liam Gannon, Greg Korck and Louis Horn come together on behalf of our organisation to help animals in our care is humbling and inspiring, to say the least.
“It just goes to show how one person (or in this case three) can make a truly significant impact on the lives of many animals and for that we are truly grateful.”
McGovern added that the organisation depended on public funding for almost half its annual income.
The organisation raised most of their funds through challenge fund-raising, which helped them meet their R36 million annual operating costs. CoGH SPCA is now urging the public to support the campaign and raise R100 000 to help fund their Mobile Clinic Programme.
The clinic treats more than 16 000 animals annually and provides veterinary care and animal welfare education to disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape.
