Film-making a class act

- Tyler Roodt

ALOS Angeles-based production and entertainment education company, ShoWorks Entertainment, will host a series of workshops in Cape Town this month for aspiring young actors and film-makers.

Jo Galloway and Darren Portilla, co-founders of

ShoWorks, will present classes that will teach people between the ages of 10 and 25 how to handle themselves in front of and behind the camera.

“ShoWorks On Camera Multi-Cam Workshop teaches and prepares young actors to work on a professional multicamera television set. However, the focus of this course is not primarily on acting,” said Galloway.

“We’ve created a syllabus centred around multi-cam, which involves using four cameras at once. They will get to act out scripts from well-known shows and movies in Hollywood they will probably have seen before. It will be a very enjoyable experience.”

While their company is based in Los Angeles, Galloway was born in Cape Town and hopes these workshops will teach the next generation of actors and film-makers.

“We want to give the kids the skills they need to further their careers; to give them more tools in their toolboxes,” she said.

Galloway and Portilla have been involved in many wellknown TV shows and movies.

The workshops begin today at the Waterfront Theatre College in Granger Bay.

Each will run over the course of two days and will be divided into two age groups, 10-17 and 1825. For details, or to book a class, contact thegallowaytheatre@ gmail.com.
