Stellenbosch aiming to climb back into top half

- MIKE DE BRUYN

STELLENBOSCH must get back to winning ways as a matter of urgency if the Winelands side wants to challenge for a spot in the season-ending promotional play-offs for a second year in a row.

The former long- time National First Division pacesetters have slipped into the bottom half of the table on the back of a hat-trick of losses and only one win from their last 11 outings.

One can only hope they find their mojo again.

There is a chance for that to happen today when they welcome basement- dwellers Mthatha Bucks to Parow Park (3.30pm kickoff).

Eastern-Cape-based Bucks were as high as third before going on a run of poor form that has produced just one win from 11 games.

But last time out they came back from two goals down to force a 3-3 draw with fellow strugglers Royal Eagles.

Stellenbosch will look to make it a season double over Bucks, after beating them 1-0 on their home turf.

Cape Town All Stars are away to higher-placed Black Leopards.

The two sides played out a stalemate earlier in the season.

Stars are on a four-game winless run while eighthplaced Leopards are unbeaten in 2018 having picked up a win last time out to go with a draw.

Much- improved Ubuntu Cape Town FC host log-leaders Highlands Park at Parow Park tomorrow (3.30 kickoff).

Park have gone 12 matches unbeaten and lead the chasing pack headed by Jomo Cosmos by five points.

The Lions of the North edged Town 1-0 in the corresponding home fixture… but will come to the Mother City knowing how well their opponents have been playing of late.

Ubuntu were stone last for many weeks but have turned things around in a big way thanks to back-to-back victories over Witbank Spurs and Mbombela United respectively.

But the men from the northern suburbs still remain in the drop zone, so a point or three would help their cause immensely.
