Parents and pupils excited about 2018

- Tyler Roodt

WELCOME back, ’Beans! For those still recovering from holiday madness, it’s time to get your brains back in gear for school. From aspiring pilots to doctors to astronauts, Grade 1 pupils embarked on their journey to realise their dreams. Filled with expectation, the class of 2018 joined more than a million pupils who made their way through primary school gates in the Western Cape.

The Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schäfer extended a warm welcome to pupils and parents at the start of the school year. It was an exciting day for children and their parents.

“I would like to welcome all our new pupils and their parents into our Western Cape schools. A special welcome to the 106 015 Grade 1 children who began school.”

She said this was often a bitter-sweet time of the year, with some children barely able to contain their excitement at the idea of going back to school and meeting their old friends again, while others wished to simply stay home and let the holidays go on for a bit longer.

Schäfer visited Levana Primary School in Lavender Hill on Wednesday. “While many learners were very brave as they bid farewell to their parents, there were also some tears as parents watched their little ones enter the next stage of their life. One Grade R even tried to make a run for it,” she said.

From the team at Jellybean Journal, have an amazing 2018.
