Talitha’s moment

- Tyler Roodt

SINGING pop songs to one’s fans is what teenage dreams are made of. Talitha Luiters, 13, is a step closer to this dream. She will be performing at the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra’s Debut Gala at the Artscape Theatre tomorrow at 6pm.

A variety of young stars from different communities will make their debut with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

It will be a celebration of song and dance with local stars including Idol SA’s winner Paxton Fielies, The Voice SA winner Craig Lucas and Kyle Shepherd. From symphonic pop, jazz, and rock to light classics, the orchestra under the baton of Brandon Phillips, will showcase some of the best talent in town.

To Talitha’s delight her heroine, Fielies, will be on stage too.

The Grade 7 Saxonsea Primary School pupil has been singing for 10 years.

“I was three years old when I started singing,” she said.

“My vocal teacher saw me at a choir festival a few years ago, and started teaching me how to use my voice.”

Since then, she has been honing her vocal chords in hopes of one day being a famous singer.

Apart from singing, Talitha enjoys reading and maths. She shrugs off the pressure of juggling school and her singing career. She is a straight-A pupil and her school’s head girl.

She hopes to study music and become a music lecturer.

Although, being a professional musician is definitely on the cards for her.

She is looking forward to tomorrow night. She said: “I am really excited. I’m looking forward to meeting Paxton. I want to win someday, just like she did.”

Her father, Ronald Luiters, said: “I’m very proud of my daughter. I told her that she needs to focus on her school work and her education, and she has been doing that. I’m very proud to have a daughter like her.”

Talitha will be performing her rendition of Jessie J’s Flashlight at the Artscape tomorrow. Tickets are available at Computicket.
