Suspect held over murder of mother
IN A dramatic twist, police have arrested a 57- year- old man at a Constantia residence in connection with the violent death of a Constantia mom whose body was found in the boot of her burnt out car near Diep River railway station last week.
They declined to comment on whether the man was well known to the victim, Springfield Convent administrator Gill Packham.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said a positive identification of the body was made on Thursday by means of forensic DNA comparison.
The arrest was made on the same night, exactly a week after the mother of two was reported missing.
“The suspect… will appear at the Wynberg Regional Court on Monday where he will be expected to apply for bail. The family of the deceased have requested that their privacy be respected and a statement will be made… in due course.”
Packham’s husband, Rob, is the general manager at a gas cooldrink company in Bellville South.
The couple have two adult daughters.
