ACCORDING to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), many kids have a sleeping problem, in that they aren’t getting enough of it.

The NSF reported in 2015 that a quarter of all babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers are sleepy throughout the day and 30% of schoolchildren have trouble getting up in the morning.

This is a big problem because not getting enough sleep can have an impact on physical and mental growth.

Sleep helps the body by speeding up the healing process, helping it grow by releasing growth hormones, strengthening the immune system and helping the brain retain new memories.

It is recommended that kids between 3 and 5 years old sleep for 10-13 hours every day and kids aged between 6 and 12 years should sleep for 9-12 hours a day; but sadly these numbers are not being met.

The company behind Barbie has introduced a new sleepwear collection in an effort to combat the sleep problem with Barbie-branded items that cover pretty much everything needed for bathtime and bedtime for girls.

The first item on the list is Barbie bubble bath, perfect for when you need to wind down before climbing into the bed.

Next is the Barbie body lotion and hairbrush to get all dolled up. All these are available at Ackermans from R60.

And because it’s winter the perfect pyjamas is the long-sleeved Barbie pyjama set and fleece gown from Edgars and Barbie bed linen from Mr Price Home.

More Barbie-branded items are available at

PnP Clothing, Makro, Dis-Chem, Clicks, SPAR and Checkers.
