Langa face Victorians on a high, after their first ever victory over WPCC

- ALLAN ISAACS

THE past weekend will go down in history as a series of upsets.

In a major surprise Langa claimed a fantastic 2-1 victory over a disappointing WPCC. The boys from Langa had never beaten WPCC in their history and their players were absolutely thrilled with this victory.

In the women’s division Central held the much-vaunted Maties to a 1-1 draw. It was the first time Central managed to take a point off Maties in their history.

Maties dominated the game but were frustrated by SA keeper, Nicole le Fleur, who was making her debut for Central.

WPCC continue to set the pace in the women’s division and will travel to Stellenbosch tomorrow to face Maties. WPCC will be expected to win, with their experience counting in their favour.

The Maties men’s team retained their unbeaten status against their closest rivals, Central, with an exciting 4-2 victory at the Hartleyvale astro.

Central came into the game with their tails up having won their first five games convincingly. But Maties had other ideas.

The teams went toe to toe in the first three chukkas and with the score locked at 2-2 it took two sin-binning cards to eventually separate the teams.

With Central down to 10 men for seven minutes of the fourth chukka, Maties capitalised and scored twice to claim the victory.

Central can only blame their poor discipline for the loss.

Central will hope to bounce back today when they host Pinelands at 3pm at Vygieskraal.

The big game of the week- end will see Maties host WPCC at Stellenbosch at 4.30pm tomorrow.
