Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)

Where fun is a sure bet

-

After enjoying dinner, we headed off to the main area of the casino to see if we could burn off all the calories we had just picked up from dinner.

Silverstar Casino has plenty of entertainment options if you aren’t a gambler. As such, we gravitated towards doing the Laser tag. It was half an hour of exhilarating fun, where we all but burned off that seafood dinner.

We then headed off to the gaming area. My brother and myself love ten-pin bowling and so we were in seventh heaven battling it out for a few games – until we were all bowled out.

We stopped at Vigour and Verve for some iced coffee before ending off the night with a movie.

After a good night’s rest and a hearty breakfast we made our way to the Soulstice Day Spa.

This is the part of the trip I was looking forward to the most. My brother enjoyed a Thai massage and I opted to go for the Hot Stone massage. While a bit pricey, which is normal for a spa, it was worth every penny.

We also made use of the rasul chamber which is a traditional Turkish bath and is a selfexfoliating and cleansing ritual, using natural mud to cleanse and detoxify the body.

All customers using the spa are also able to use the indoor heated swimming pool. We spent the entire day enjoying the heated pool.

As a customer, you are also able to order food from an array of restaurants at the casino and enjoy it here, which we did – we ordered pizzas from Col’Cacchio.

All refreshed and relaxed from our spa day, we then headed off to the outdoor area to catch a football game on the giant screen. Silverstar Casino shows all sports on its giant television screen on weekends.

Before we knew it, it was dinner time already.

It wasn’t tough to decide where to have our dinner. We had been eyeing Aarya restaurant since we got there. My brother and I love MasterChef, and so the opportunity to eat here – the popular eatery of MasterChef SA winner Deena Naidoo – was a no-brainer.

We ordered the king prawns, the spaghetti arabiatta, the butter beans curry, some garlic naan and the spicy seafood hotpot. The service was fantastic and the food was even better. I would visit again. We also tried the Cape malva pudding and chocolate mud pie – a perfect ending to a near-perfect meal.

Before we knew it, it was time to head home.

In 24 hours of being at Silverstar Casino, we barely came close to the actual casino tables. We didn’t need to gamble to have fun at a casino, something which I didn’t think was possible before my visit here.

Also, that rasul chamber was too good an experience not to enjoy again. And the choice of food was simply marvellous.

Do yourself a favour and visit Silverstar Casino if you are in the West Rand. It is well worth checking out. And you certainly won’t go wrong booking a night or two out at the Southern Sun Silverstar.
