Pop­u­lar Atif As­lam set to rock the Mother City

FANS of Bol­ly­wood mu­sic are in for a treat when the much- lauded Pak­istani singer Atif As­lam per­forms at the state-of-the-art Cape Town In­ter­na­tional Con­ven­tion Cen­tre 2 next Fri­day.

A Jain­oo­d­ien Broth­ers Ini­tia­tive, this will be the Mother City de­but of an artiste who has won every ma­jor mu­sic award in Pak­istan and In­dia.

As­lam’s ren­di­tion of the Sufi- in­spired Ta­j­dare- Haram has crossed 100 mil­lion views on YouTube, be­com­ing the first video orig­i­nat­ing from Pak­istan to achieve the land­mark record.

Orig­i­nally sung by Qawwali artistes the Sabri Broth­ers, As­lam’s ver­sion has been viewed in 186 coun­tries across the world. As­lam is in great de­mand as a singer for many Bol­ly­wood films and his reper­toire in­cludes pop­u­lar songs like Pehli Nazar Mein, Tu Jaane Naa, Main Rang Shar­ba­ton Ka and Tera Sang Yara.

Im­pre­sario Ir­faan Jain­oo­d­ien said: “My broth­ers Si­raaj, Niyaaz and I are do­ing our best to con­tinue the great work our late dad, Sharief Jain­oo­d­ien, started in pro­mot­ing many prom­i­nent in­ter­na­tional artistes like the late Nus­rat Fateh Ali Khan lo­cally.

“The last show he pro­moted here was that of Ra­hat Fateh Ali Khan and it was only fit­ting that we paid tribute to him by bring­ing Ra­hat to Cape Town again ear­lier this year. Atif As­lam will rock this con­cert.”
