Donate books on Mandela Day

The Community Chest is holding a charity drive

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - SPORT - Tyler Roodt

AFTER the success of last year’s event, non-profit organisation the Community Chest will host its second Mandela Day Book Mountain this Wednesday.

The organisation’s take on a book drive involves gathering a bunch of books and piling them up to make a book mountain. The event has been held only once before, on Mandela Day last year, when it collected more than 1 000 books.

The organisation invites corporations and ordinary people to take part in the event and donate children’s books, in keeping with Madiba’s love for children and his mission to improve education in our country.

The Community Chest head of resource development, Desiré Goliath, said: “Mandela was known for how much he valued education and how much he encouraged young people to pursue education so as to create better futures for themselves, their families and their country. As such, our call to action is to continue the work that he started by encouraging children and young people to read.
