Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - METRO -

THE only lighthouse on the South African coast to be erected on a single rock is the Roman Rock Lighthouse, situated in False Bay. Installed on September 16, 1861, the lighthouse owes its existence to Joseph Nourse, Commodore, Royal Navy, who, explained to the Admiralty in London, the importance of the safety of His Majesty’s ships coming into Simon’s Bay.
