THE Cape Columbine light­house was es­tab­lished on Oc­to­ber 1, 1936. It was built on the ris­ing ground at Cas­tle Rock, with its light 80m above sea level and has a range of 32 sea miles. Light­houses of South Africa web­site said this is the first light­house sighted by ships from Europe.

The light­house is about two and half hours drive from Cape Town on the west coast, about 3km from Pater­nos­ter.
