FIRST LIGHT FOR VISITORS
THE Cape Columbine lighthouse was established on October 1, 1936. It was built on the rising ground at Castle Rock, with its light 80m above sea level and has a range of 32 sea miles. Lighthouses of South Africa website said this is the first lighthouse sighted by ships from Europe.
The lighthouse is about two and half hours drive from Cape Town on the west coast, about 3km from Paternoster.
