Beckhams shut down rumours (again)

MARRIAGE is always“hard work”.

But when the words stumble out the mouth of one of the world’s sexiest, richest, media savvy men it is tabloid pandemonium.

In an interview on Australian TV programme The Sunday Project David Beckham told host Lisa Wilkinson: “When you’ve been married for the amount of time that we have, it’s always hard work.”

Adding that with children “It becomes a little more complicated”.

This after the 43-year-old David and 44-year-old Victoria underwent major media scrutiny of their relationship in June.

Victoria, a mogul in her own right, shut down reports that she cried for two days when she appeared on the cover of Vogue.

She said in the interview: “People have been making things up about our relationship for 20 years, so David and I are used to ignoring the nonsense and just carrying on as normal.

“But these things have a wider effect on the people around us, and that’s unfair.”

The designer recently commemorated the 10th anniversary of her namesake brand by unveiling her spring/summer 2019 collection.

The power couple are parents to Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and Harper, 7.

They’ve been pictured most recently on social media attending the Invictus Games in Australia as a family.

David told the ABC that his children were enjoying spending time Down Under. “To bring the family over, to make them experience something like this is pretty incredible.”

Meanwhile, Daily Mail reports say back home Victoria is building Romeo a tennis court on their sprawling Cotswolds property.

They’re also enlisted Chelsea Flower Show winner Marcus Barnett to transform their garden into a “fairytale rural retreat” as well.

Last year the Daily Mail reported that David’s business recorded a staggering £24.9 million profit after tax, thanks to the success of enterprises such as his men’s fashion range Kent & Curwen and his role as global ambassador for pan-Asian life insurance group, AIA in Hong Kong – alone thought to be worth more than £5m per year.

Sources close to David say the real split he’s looking for is from manager Simon Fuller. Fuller, is a part-owner of Beckham’s US soccer team, Inter Miami, and could lose his interest.

Interestingly Fuller will remain a shareholder in Victoria’s fashion business and will contiue to manage her.

A source told The Daily Mail, “There is a lot of wrangling over money. Brand Beckham has been going for 23 years and it isn’t an easy one to untangle.”

The Washington Post recently read, “married, and (according to a strongly worded statement) staying that way”. It reads:

“What we know: rumours began swirling on social media that the soccer star and the singer turned fashion designer would soon announce their divorce.

A spokesperson for the couple hit back in a very British way: “What nonsense. Journalist whispers and fake news fuelled by social media,” the representative told People. “There is no impending statement, no divorce.”

The Post went on to say: “Why we care: thanks to their beauty, wealth and success, the Beckhams are iconic in the way that Brangelina was. Infidelity rumours have long dogged the couple, who have been married for almost 19 years.

“In 2006, the couple settled a defamation lawsuit against the nowdefunct tabloid News of the World, which they said falsely claimed their marriage was in trouble.”

“David and I got through it together,” Victoria said the following year. “No one said marriage was going to be easy. Yes, there have been bumps along the road.

“But the fact is we’ve come out of everything we’ve been through stronger and happier.”
