Great line-up of parties in City and surrounds to welcome 2019

V&A Waterfront bash begins at 6.30pm on New Year’s Eve and ends with fireworks

CAPE Town’s biggest free New Year’s Eve party takes place at the V&A Waterfront, with the entertainm­ent beginning at 6.30pm when a range of performers, bands and colourful Cape Town Carnival characters will entertain revellers from the Amphitheat­re and children’s playground area to the Alfred Mall, Nobel Square, the Clock Tower, all the way to the Silo District.

As always, the spectacula­r midnight fireworks display is co-sponsored by the City of Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront.

Restaurant seats need to be booked in advance, but the food court will be open till late and various food trucks will be positioned across the property, which will open for trading from 9am.

The theme is Mother Earth, and you’ll be able to spot characters like tree nymphs, giant flowers, bees the Flower Power squad, roaming spirits, tree stilt walkers, butterfly floats, puppets and drumming crews.

Bid farewell to 2018 with a lavish New Year’s Eve bash with all-night entertainm­ent, bottomless flutes of bubbly, canapés and tapas at Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate in Franschhoe­k. Guests will be spoilt for choice with tasty and bountiful morsels available from 8pm.

A line-up of live entertainm­ent, fire performers and DJs will take them through to the magic hour to welcome 2019.

5FM’s Secrets of Summer New Year’s Eve Beach Party, brought to you by Corona, will be held at the River Club Golf Estate in Observator­y and promises to be the biggest production yet, with four beautifull­y themed stages and dance arenas and a man-made beach oasis complete with soft beach sand, palm trees, day beds, splash pools, geodesic domes and DJ lifeguard towers.

The line-up of South Africa’s finest groove masters and internatio­nal stars will ensure you hear the music you love – deep and tech house, disco, hip hop, commercial, Ibiza house and EDM and Brazilian bass.

Headliners are Shapeless (Brazil) and Wolf Player (Brazil) and South African favourites Kyle Watson, Locnville, Chunda Munki, Pascal & Pearce, Mark Stent, Strange Loving, The Kiffness, Dean Fuel, Apple Gule, Mogey, Minx, DdoubleJP, Khord and Gary Night. 5FM celebrity performers include Das Kapital, Rob Forbes, Nick Hamman and Ryan the DJ.

Celebrate at the Sky Villa Boutique Hotel New Years’ Eve party – 6.30pm for 7.00pm – the most lavish and entertaini­ng party in Plett, with no better view than from the rooftop bar with its pool and large booth-seating areas.

Entertainm­ent includes William Ferreira, a local musician from Sedgefield, and Doppelgäng­er, a lively electronic duo playing the sounds of house, jazz and electro.

JayKay on decks and JoeSmash on the sax have performed on some of the biggest stages in the Eastern Cape, playing covers – with a twist.

Buffet-style party food will be served throughout the evening, and just before midnight you can count down the last seconds of 2018 with a glass of Boschendal MCC in hand to toast in the new year.

For a chilled vibe head out to Stanford Hills Estate near Hermanus on January 2 for Louise Carver and Ard Matthews in concert.

Two of South Africa’s most talented singer-songwriter­s with multiple radio hits between the two of them, decided to come together to create another magical sunset concert at a beautiful, scenic estate to celebrate the new year. This show will include Carver and Matthews’s well-known hits plus some very special collaborat­ions.
