1 EAT For something really unique, visit Boere Sjiek. It’s an antique store with the most eclectic array of goodies and an outstandin­g coffee shop among the collectabl­es. This is a must visit if you are in the area. 021982 2023

2 DRINK Sir Loin Steakhouse is a Castle Lite House and offers a broad selection of local brews on tap as well as a range of bottled beers. In addition to a regular “happy hour” from Tuesday to Saturday, they serve the most delicious 21-day-aged A-grade steaks.

3 OUTDOORS For the adrenalin junkie, why not give Hostile Paintball a shot? You can choose from forest to urban warfare and this fun is open to 11- to 65-year-olds – and older. The courses are supervised by safety marshals and protective headgear is supplied

(082 445 8304). For a more leisurely outing go to Bracken Nature Reserve. Encompassi­ng 36ha, it is one of 31 operated by the City of Cape Town and has more than 160 indigenous species of plants – 10 of which face extinction. Entrance is free (021 982 1323).

4 SHOP Capegate is a relatively new regional shopping centre within Brackenfel­l. With more than 160 shops, representi­ng all the major chains, it can satisfy the retail therapy needs of anyone. More than half the parking bays are free and it is home to the only Imax theatre in the Western Cape (021 981 2288). The Candle Factory Shop is a perfect outing if you’re looking for a huge range of candles and related goodies. Whether it’s for a private home event or hospitalit­y establishm­ent, the Candle Factory Shop will have something to excite you (021 981 0528).
