‘My f**’ – clumsy Marelize is quite a hit
WHAT started as a simple bicycle riding lesson has now turned into an online sensation, with South Africans and its Namibian neighbours enjoying a new catchphrase: “My f**, Marelize”.
The Afrikaans profanity was the candid reaction of Marelize Horn’s mother, Heidi, when the 19-yearold crashed her bicycle into a rugby pole.
The footage emerged on social media and has been uploaded to Youtube, garnering thousands of views this week.
Viewers enjoyed the reaction so much that some have even said that they were considering using the expression as their new ringtone and cellphone message alert.
Others have coined the term in an effort to comically expression frustration, irritation, disbelief, amazement or amusement.
In the video, Horn had been learning to ride her bicycle on what appears to be the rugby field at Affies Park in Windhoek, Namibia.
A gust of wind can be heard as she is seen slowly cycling around the field.
But as she nears the rugby poles, she fails to stop in time and instead, crashes into the structure.
As she falls, her mother, who was recording the lesson, exclaims in Afrikaans “My f** Marelize” as she walks towards her..
“My mum Heidi says: ‘My f**,
Marelize’ to me almost every day, Horn told News24 yesterday. “I fall off things, walk into things – it’s insane how clumsy I am.
“My mum made a video of me riding so that we could watch it afterward to pick up on any mistakes that I made.”
She told News24 she was learning to ride the bicycle as she planned on moving to the Netherlands later this year to work as an au pair.
Horn is amazed by the attention that her ordeal has received and has said that there were already T-shirts with the phrase available.
The video and the now infamous expression with its own hashtag, #myf**marelize has caused comedic relief to those who watched it.
Some questioned why Horn was not wearing a helmet while others praised her mother’s reaction.
