PSORIASIS triggers are not universal. What may cause one person’s psoriasis to become active may not affect another. This is why consulting an expert is the best way to manage psoriasis. Dermatologists will prescribe oral, systemic and topical treatment according to the severity of the psoriasis. Make sure that alongside this, you follow a skin-care routine where you avoid artificial fragrance, colourants, SD alcohol and any triggers. Here are a few practical tips: Avoid psoriasis triggers: infections, injuries to the skin, stress, smoking, poor diet, harsh soaps and intense sun exposure can all worsen psoriasis. Avoid overstimulating the skin with aggressive treatment: bathing can soften skin lesions and make cell build-up easier to remove. If you use an exfoliator, test skin for tolerance, but chemical exfoliants like hydroxy acids are a preferred choice over mechanical scrubs. Keep skin moisturised and choose anti-inflammatory formulas: blot or pat skin after bathing, then immediately apply a nourishing moisturiser while your skin is still moist. For very dry skin, a body oil may be preferable as it may remain on the surface of the skin for longer. During cold, dry weather, preferably use a body moisturiser several times a day. Use only lotions and soaps that are fragrance-free and designed for sensitive skin. to help reduce irritation. Calm Water Gel and Skin Smoothing Cream are popular choices.
