MAGPIES 7/2 TO BEAT UNITED WORTH A SHOT

- SANELE TSHABALALA

IT’S a full schedule this weekend

ba kwethu. On the footy side the EPL action kicks off with Brighton playing Tottenham. So is there a possibility of a Blighty upset? I’d say there’s a slight chance.

Other English Premier League matches today see Norwich hosting Aston Villa, Burnley facing Everton, Watford up against Sheffield and Liverpool playing Leicester in surely the game of the weekend.

And last up today is the lesser London derby, where West Ham play Crystal Palace, which could be an intriguing clash.

Then tomorrow there are a bunch of games, more than your usual, with four games being played, each featuring a top flight team.

Manchester City play Wolves, which should be a shut-out with 3-plus goals, then Arsenal take on Bournemouth, Southampton play Chelsea and Newcastle clash with Manchester United.

The Magpies look to be a good bet at 7/2 at home.

Locally in the footy, it is a cup weekend. Lapho it is two unexpected teams competing for the MTN 8 Trophy. The unlikely teams are SuperSport versus Highlands Park, being played at Orlando Stadium. There isn’t much to be excited about, but it’s still a final. SuperSport go in as favourites but expect anything to happen in Soweto.

On to the rugby, and we are now two weeks into the World Cup which has been full of entertainment with an upset or two thrown in.

The weekend kicks off today with Australia playing Uruguay. The handicap is 53 points and the Ozzie players will fancy their chances at putting 50 past the South Americans.

Then it’s England versus Argentina. This should be the game of the weekend without a doubt. England are favourites but dear Eddie “Mr World Cup” Jones will be cautious not to have his chargers slip up and lose focus, otherwise they may be the third upset of the tournament.

Then it’s the hosts Japan taking on Samoa, and this game has great potential to be an enticing match between two teams with totally different styles of play.

South African supporters will be backing Japan, so the Boks can get revenge for 2015 in Brighton in the quarter-finals.

Tomorrow New Zealand play Namibia first up, which is bound to be a massacre, where 80 points wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

Then it’s France facing Tonga, which is a toss up, but I think France should do the job by 20 points at least.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the Springboks will be in action against Canada. It’s just a four-day turnaround for the South Africans following their comprehensive victory over Italy yesterday.

This is the last game for Rassie’s men before the quarters, which should be a shoo-in for them as they look far too strong for Canada who they must beat to make the last eight.

The remaining games into next week are Argentina versus the United States, Scotland against Russia, and Wales playing Fiji which should be a cracker.
