Blue Bells U10 target cup hat-trick
Wynberg side has won two knockout events in the space of a week
BLUE Bells AFC’s Under-10 side have dribbled their way to the top and they hope to continue their winning run this weekend.
The Wynberg-based side created their own piece of history by winning two competitions within a week.
On September 24, they won the Heritage Cup after beating New Hope FC 2-1 and four days later they beat Morgenster United FC with the same score at the Rygate Cubs Festival.
To top off their achievements, Uzair Scello won the Golden Glove Award at the Heritage Cup.
The Grade 3 pupil at Sunlands Primary School said he was happy about winning the award.
“Blue Bells AFC is my family away from home. I’ve made lots of friends who will be part of my life forever. I am confident that we will do well in the upcoming tournaments,” he said.
Coach Zaid Emeraan said: “The players and parents are obviously extremely happy. From the coaching side, it’s an added bonus. Our goal is mainly to let the players enjoy themselves and try and develop and improve every boy in the team. The trophy is an added bonus.
“For both tournaments we took a big squad of 14 players, which was basically our u10A team even though the tournaments were nine and seven-a-side. We rotated the boys regularly throughout all the matches, which meant we were always fresh.
“Playing against teams outside of our LFA tests the boys against different opposition, but then also new friendships are made,” he said.
Blue Bells will hope to continue their fine run in the knockout competitions when they compete in the Lucky Star Cup hosted by FC Kapstadt this weekend. The tournament started yesterday.
“We’ve played in the tourney for the past few years and always enjoy ourselves. This same squad of boys won it as U7/U8s a few years ago.
“We expect the tourney will be tough, but we are going there to enjoy ourselves and give it our best like we always do,” Emeraan said.
