THE foyer of the Cape Town Marriott Hotel Crystal Towers in Century City was transformed into a fashionably glamorous space perfect for a fashion show.

It was all glitz and glamour for the inaugural New York Runway South Africa event held last Friday.

This showcased world-leading designers who have showed at New York Fashion Week over the years.

Red Carpet Creative Production and Runway Prestige New York collaborated to bring together fashion cultures from New York and Cape Town under one roof.

“A spectacular display of fashion luminaries,” said Red Carpet Creative chief executive Jade Allen.

“We’re honoured to have had the opportunity of presenting this first collaboration on African soil. A cross-continental amalgamation of artistic expression, merging global fashion-forward visionaries with varying style articulations.”

The trends spotted from New York designers featured eclectic diversity.

The show started with celebrity designer Michael Lombard. Using leather, his bold neo-Gothic designs featured dramatic futuristic accents with elaborate studs and embellishing.

NYC designer Henry Picado for ESTE & CHLO, presented elegant eveningwear ensembles, with a piece worn by Lady Gaga. They integrated classic and contemporary hand-crafted garments articulating expression inspired by Hollywood glamour.

South African swimwear design label BeachCult by Joanna Hedley captured summer with safari-inspired prints on soft-flowing fabrics.

“It’s everything you need to kickoff the summer season,” said Malcolm KLûK of the KLûK CGDT range.

“Keep it local and educate,” added Jacques LaGrange of his closing range of elegant, sophisticated garments.
