swanky venues for year-end parties

Take the office banter somewhere classy for your end-of-year function at one of these exquisite restaurants

- SACHA VAN NIEKERK

AS THE last weeks and months of the year fly by, we look forward to the December holidays and festive season. But until then, we’ll be buckled down at work where all that seems to be on anyone’s mind is where the year-end party will be hosted. From mountainous wine estates to swanky city restaurants, these are the most divine venues for year-end functions.

WESTERN CAPE THE GRANARY CAFÉ AT THE SILO HOTEL

Rich in beauty and history, this hotel restaurant is located at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

Set in the original grain elevator, the broad glass windows boast stunning views of Table Bay Harbour and majestic mountainous surroundings making dining in the Granary Café a truly unparalleled experience. The menu inherits the same comfortable, eclectic and contemporary style as the hotel interiors, blending modern and antique furnishings with industrial accents.

As for the food, executive chef Veronica Canha-Hibbert and her team believe in good, honest and approachable food that showcases seasonal, local ingredients.

For lunch and dinner, they have a concise, but diverse menu combining re-imagined versions of classics, as well as some of Canha-Hibbert’s own creations such as the prawn tagliatelle, Cape seafood curry and a root vegetable terrine.

Treat your colleagues to an elegant high tea where guests will be spoilt for choice from the pastry chef’s selection. Petit gateaux, buttermilk scones and clotted cream, as well as a selection of savoury delights exclusive to the Royal Tea are a few of the exquisite treats. Bookings are essential and 24 hours notice is required in order to prepare everything for the Royal Tea.

The largest table they can accommodate is seven guests at R275 per person in the Granary Café, with eight to 12 guests hosted in the library for R375pp, and 13 to 22 guests hosted in the Wisdom Room for R475pp.

If you’re in search of a more intimate affair, opt for a private dining experience. The Wisdom Room is a wonderful private dining room for up to 22 guests.

A leisurely lunch for R695pp

(12% service fee and R250pp drinks allocation to be pre-paid) offers starters of heirloom beetroot and orange salad with pumpkin seed praline, feta cream, rocket and the likes of duck breast paired with smoked sweet potato purée, seasonal vegetables, duck jus for mains.
