Magic to blow minds

TOP hats and wands are the tools of the trade for College of Magic duo Riyago Maartens and Liam Hewitson.

Riyago and Liam will be performing their first show together called

The showcase, scheduled for today at 3pm at Magnet Theatre in Observator­y, will display a collection of magical experiment­s.

Their performanc­e will be that of hilarious humour and mind-blowing magic.

Riyago, 15, from Durbanvill­e, said the main subject of their show was how the audience perceive things around them.

He said the show took eight months to prepare.

“The audience can expect fun, laughter and entertainm­ent. A time where they can go into a new and different world where anything is possible,” he said.

Riyago said he had been studying at the college for three years.

“I’m inspired by my dreams. I work hard. I even have my own YouTube channel called Riyago Maartens,” he said.

Constantia’s Liam, 17, whose expertise is mentalism, said they planned to explore the minds of the audience.

“There will be singing, comedy, and pure magic. They can expect mind-blowing magic and mentalism with a huge kicker at the end,” he said.

Liam started at the college when he was 10 and has since graduated.

“My passion for magic is driven by everything I see. If I see the smallest thing I will immediatel­y think how could that bring joy to our world, and the people that I share it with,” he said.

David Gore, director of the College of Magic, added: “The College of Magic is proud to see two of our talented magicians stage their own public show. Both are destined for a great performing future!”
