40 tons of waste lifted from Red Sea
CAPE TOWN: Egypt’s ministry of environment said 40 tons of waste had been removed from the Red Sea floor as part of a campaign to protect biodiversity, monthly magazine
Egypt Today reported.
It said the area, covering Hurghada, Safaga and Marsa Alam, was cleaned between June 19 and 29.
According to the ministry, the next stage of the “Red Sea Clean Reefs Campaign” will be carried out on a larger scale and will include diving sites inside and outside the Red Sea national reserves.
The ministry said the collected waste was transferred to a sanitary landfill for safe disposal.
