Missing girl’s family pleading for Cele to intervene in search

ALMOST two months on and there is still no trace of missing 12-year-old Lunamandla Sithonga who was last seen boarding her school transport 45 days ago.

The Sithonga family is now calling on Police Minister Bheki Cele to intervene and assist in the search and safe return of their child.

Though thankful for the assistance of the police and Pink Ladies, Ntomboxolo Sithonga, the little girl’s aunt, said the searches have yielded no results.

“We just want her safe return, we are appealing to anyone who has her to bring her back to us, we ask the minister of police to help us find her. We need to have her back with us please,” she pleaded.

Lunamandla was last seen by her mother boarding her scholar transport in front of their Site B home in TR Section, Khayelitsh­a.

The Grade 6 pupil never made it to Eastville Primary School in Mitchells Plain.

Police spokespers­on, Andrè Traut said the search continues.

“This office can confirm that the disappeara­nce of 12-year-old Lunamandla Sithonga is being investigat­ed by the Mitchells Plain FSC Unit after she was last seen on July 9,” he said.

According to Missing Children

SA, a child goes missing every five hours in SA. Spokespers­on Bianca Aswegen said statistics show that 77% of children are found.

Sixteen-year-old Simamkele Matyida from Delft was last seen on August 2, Pamela Nongalo, 14, from Samora Machel, last seen July 13, Anothando Mhlontlo, 3, from Houtbay was last seen on August

10. They are also all still missing.
